Design Tower « Back
Background
The objective of the Design Tower is to promote the various design and artistic businesses in this landmark building. The site will directly target the more discerning consumer who values high quality design, crafts and art; encouraging them to visit the tower as their first port of call when looking for creative services and products.
The Challenge
Many of the small craft and design practices that work from The Design Tower do not have their own websites so our objective was to create a portal or shop window from which they could display their work. The site itself had to be highly creative and visually appealing, reflecting the high level of design quality within the tower itself.
Our Approach
The first step was to look at the building and it's location and use it as a focus for the design of the website homepage. The ethos of the building is creativity so it was important to reflect this with a high impact home page, showing the building in content to the user knows where it is.
The next step was to formulate a clear menu structure and design content pages for each business. We introduced a JQuery / Ajax dynamic animated menu system to allow users to navigate around the site with ease. The structure allows the reader to see exactly what artist is on each floor and navigate directly to their page with one click.
Clean, minimal content pages where designed to compliment the individual artist's styles and not overpower them, allowing the gallery images of their work to shine through.
To allow site administrators to update the site and galleries easily and frequently, we implemented the Joomla content management system for website updates.
Result
We created a very dynamic yet subtle site which is user friendly, engaging and reflects the creativity of the Design Tower. It was nominated for a Digital Media Awards 2007.
